Born in Mexico City under the name Carlos Fernando Aguilar Bowers, Fernando Corona performs Mexican regional music as a vocalist and recording artist. He finished second during the first season of Univision’s singing competition Va por Ti.

His mother recalls that he started singing almost immediately after learning to walk. At age eight his parents separated, after which he relocated to the United States with his mother and stepfather; he has since discussed openly the fact that he entered the country without documentation. Corona picked up the guitar at ten and began performing in church choirs as well as at neighborhood gatherings. During his teenage years he started composing original material. As a young man he devoted himself fully to music, taking every available opportunity to play live before eventually returning to Mexico City. He has cited Pedro Fernández as his primary musical influence.

Univision revealed plans for Va por Ti toward the end of 2013. Galilea Montijo served as host while Alejandra Guzmán, Dulce María, and Jencarlos Canela judged the contestants. Corona auditioned successfully and advanced into the main competition, where he lasted through fourteen rounds before Yazaira defeated him in the finale.

Although he did not receive the show’s recording-contract prize, Warner Music Latina signed him anyway, buoyed by strong viewer support throughout the season. His initial video singles, “Llueve en Mi Cama” and “Digo Adios,” accumulated tens of thousands of YouTube views and secured radio airplay. Produced by Manuel Gonzalez, his self-titled debut album appeared in February 2015.
