Biography
Fly Golden Eagle, a Nashville psych-rock group, took shape in the late 2000s with singer/songwriter Ben Trimble at its core. Trimble, raised in downriver Detroit within a wildly musical and religious household, absorbed gospel and honky tonk as a child; those sounds exerted influence on the band’s eclectic style comparable to the classic rock, funk, and psychedelia that define its primary character. Joined by keyboardist Mitch Jones, bassist Matt Shaw, and drummer Richard Harper, the combo issued its debut album, Swagger, in late 2011 and quickly became notable figures in Nashville’s expanding underground scene. Enlisting Alabama Shakes’ Andrija Tokic as producer, the musicians devoted the ensuing several years to composing and polishing their next record. Issued independently in late 2014, the ambitious 26-track double album Quartz—along with its single-disc counterpart Quartz Bijou—secured a deal with ATO Records, which supplied a national release the year after.
