Biography
The London-based alternative pop/rock group Flyte fuses vocal melodies in the vein of MGMT and Orange Juice with guitar textures echoing Franz Ferdinand and Cage the Elephant. Its lineup comprises lead vocalist and guitarist Will Taylor, guitarist and keyboardist Sam Berridge, bassist Nick Hill, and drummer Jon Supran. The members came together during their school years, when Taylor and Supran began writing songs daily after classes. Once Berridge and Hill joined, the quartet started playing shows across London and soon entered the studio for its first EP. Released independently, Live was captured in a single day under producer Dan Grech-Marguerat, whose credits include Lana Del Rey and Moby, and its opening track “Over and Out” earned repeated plays on leading U.K. radio outlets. In early 2014 Flyte issued the single “We Are the Rain” on Paradyse Records, then moved to Island for the label debut “Light Me Up” and the follow-up EP Diamond White, which appeared at Christmas that year. Momentum built after the band’s sets at the 2014 Reading and Leeds Festivals. Two further singles arrived in 2015—“Closer Together” and “Please Eloise”—ahead of support tours alongside MS MR, Hudson Taylor, and Bombay Bicycle Club. Flyte’s first album, The Loved Ones, emerged in August 2017, produced by Burke Reid, whose past work includes Courtney Barnett and the Drones. After months on the road, the group returned to the studio and released the standalone tracks “Moon Unit” and “Victory Girls.”
