Frankie J

Tijuana-born and San Diego-raised contemporary R&B artist Frankie J grew up immersed in Latin sounds alongside American influences such as Michael Jackson and Run-D.M.C. His entry into the Latin freestyle scene came at age 15, yielding multiple singles issued by a Canadian dance imprint. Although a 1997 deal with Jellybean Benitez’s Hola label failed to materialize, he quickly found stability as a member of los Kumbia Kings. Several years later he launched his solo career via the 2003 Columbia release What’s a Man to Do?, a ballad-heavy set. Subsequent projects arrived in the form of One (2005), Un Nuevo Día (2006), and Priceless (also 2006). Following his departure from Columbia, he resurfaced with Courage in 2011. Two years afterward he issued Faith, Hope y Amor, which featured a guest turn from rapper Pitbull and received a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album. In 2017 he teamed with Baby Bash on the joint album Sangria.
