Biography
FUR shapes its guitar-driven indie rock with a blend of melodic hooks and reflective depth, pulling inspiration from classic rock & roll, British Invasion acts, power pop forebears, and present-day indie pop currents. The Brighton, England-formed outfit first surfaced in 2015. Its third single, the multi-million-stream “If You Know That I'm Lonely,” generated early streaming traction in 2017 and led to headline runs through the U.K., Europe, and Asia plus BBC 6 Music rotation. William Murray fronts the group on vocals and rhythm guitar, flanked by lead guitarist Harry Saunders, bassist William “Tav” Tavener, and drummer Flynn Whelan. Nice Swan Recordings issued the band’s self-titled debut EP in 2019. A year later the members self-released and self-produced the Facing Home Mixtape EP, now featuring rhythm guitarist and songwriter Josh Buchanan in Saunders’s stead while the others traded instrumental roles. A month of sessions at Eastbourne’s Echo Zoo Studios yielded the full-length debut When You Walk Away, with keyboardist Mike Rowe—Mick Jagger and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds—among the guests. Theo Verney, whose prior credits include Fake Laugh and Egyptian Blue, produced the set, which surfaced in November 2021 on Norwegian label 777 Music. The release coincided with U.K. and European dates supporting Boy Pablo, followed by FUR’s first North American tour.
