Biography
Formed in 1995, the Scottish post-rock quartet Ganger brought together bassists Stuart Henderson and Graham Gavin, drummer James Young, and guitarist Lucy McKenzie through a common appreciation for classic Krautrock. Their first outing arrived via the EP Half Nelson, whose lengthy spontaneous pieces such as "Jellyneck" defined the band's initial sound, yet growing precision and breadth in the music soon triggered lineup shifts, starting with McKenzie's departure to concentrate on visual arts. Once Gavin left in 1997, Henderson and Young added ex-Fukiyama bassist Natasha Noramly and guitarist Craig B., enabling the refreshed Ganger to reappear in early 1998 with the EP With Tongues Twisting Words; the full-length Hammock Style arrived later that year, though the band had already split by 1999.
