In 1976 Garfield French, handling lead vocals as frontman of the six-member ensemble featuring drummer Dennis French, keyboardist Jacques Fillion, guitarists Walter Lawrence and Paul O'Donnell, plus flutist Chip Yarwood, launched the group by supporting 10cc at a concert in Ottawa, Canada. Mercury Records promptly offered the act a deal after witnessing that performance. Garfield issued the debut album Strange Streets the same year, with Out There Tonight and Cold on the Streets arriving across the next two.
