Originating in Castlemilk, Glasgow, Gerry Cinnamon works as a Scottish acoustic blues singer and songwriter. The Beatles, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and the Jesus and Mary Chain shaped his approach, prompting him to compose introspective material that pairs those themes with anthemic singalong choruses recalling Frank Turner and the Tallest Man on Earth. Early visibility arrived through a weekly open-mike night he hosted at a Glaswegian bar, after which his original songs began attracting attention on the live circuit in 2014. Momentum built quickly, turning him into a draw across the city and surrounding areas thanks to his atmospheric performances. Two tracks in particular raised his profile: “Hope Over Fear,” which aligned with the “Yes” campaign in the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum, and “Kampfire Vampire,” a social critique exploring the experience of growing up in Glasgow. Social commentary surfaced regularly in his lyrics and found wide resonance across the country. Both songs secured strong positions on the 2015 digital music charts. Festival bookings followed at T in the Park in 2015 and 2016, along with opening appearances for Ocean Colour Scene and John Power of Cast. In 2016 he received the Best Live Act award at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards and then concentrated on writing and recording his debut album. Funded through an online fan campaign, Erratic Cinematic arrived in late 2017, earned gold certification, and confirmed his standing as an anthemic yet intimate songwriter—an identity he carried forward with the release of his second album, The Bonny, in 2020.
