British rock outfit Tribes came together in Camden Town, London during 2010, its lineup consisting of vocalist and guitarist Johnny Lloyd, guitarist Dan White, bassist Jimmy Cratchley—all three previously members of Operahouse—and drummer Miguel Demelo. The group quickly attracted listeners through energetic concerts and an early demo uploaded to MySpace, which prompted indie rock figure Frank Black to invite the quartet to support Pixies at a London show later that year. Their first official recording, the We Were Children EP, appeared in April 2011 under the guidance of producer Mike Crossley, whose past credits include Arctic Monkeys and the Kooks. Momentum continued with a live session at Radio 1’s Maida Vale studios and appearances at festivals across Europe and Asia that summer. The full-length debut Baby was scheduled for January 2012, coinciding with support slots alongside Kaiser Chiefs and the Kooks. The follow-up album, Wish to Scream, captured at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, California, surfaced the next year.
