Formed in Texas in 1999, Ghoultown fuses punk rock with Western motifs, mariachi accents, and B-movie flourishes that have drawn notice to the group from the outset. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist Count Lyle, the lineup includes guitarists Lizard Lazario and Jake Middlefinger, bassist Santi, trumpeter Dez Black, and drummer X-Ray Charles. Their debut release, the three-song EP Boots of Hell, arrived late that year and received favorable notices plus spins on independent radio. Two years later the band delivered the full-length Tales From the Dead West and began performing live, sharing stages with Rocket From the Crypt, D.R.I., and Dick Dale. Further exposure came in 2002 when several tracks appeared on the soundtrack of the slasher film American Nightmare, while Count Lyle also developed plans for a Ghoultown comic book.
