In the early 1980s, guitarist and vocalist Dann Huff issued a pair of albums that failed to resonate while performing with the Christian rock outfit White Heart. He subsequently sought stability through studio session work, where he soon ranked among the industry’s most sought-after, dependable, and adaptable musicians. After supporting a wide array of artists ranging from Michael Jackson to Amy Grant, Huff chose to front his own project and assembled Giant alongside drummer David Huff, keyboardist Alan Pasqua, and bassist Mike Brignardello. The group secured a deal with A&M Records and delivered the 1989 release Last of the Runaways, whose melodic hard rock approach produced the Top 20 single “I’ll See You in My Dreams.” Despite that track’s modest success, overall sales remained low, prompting a move to Epic for the 1991 follow-up Time to Burn. Although this effort adopted a somewhat harder edge than its predecessor, it likewise failed to elevate the band’s profile, leading to their eventual breakup. Huff returned to session duties, contributing to albums by Shania Twain and Michael W. Smith while also serving as producer on multiple recordings by metal giants Megadeth.
