The Graforréia Xilarmônica took shape through the partnership of ex-Cascavelettes's Frank Jorge with musicians who had previously played in Prisão de Ventre. The group first drew attention after issuing the 1988 demo tape Com Muito Amor E Carinho, whose standout cuts were "Amigo Punk," "Empregada," and "Buda Baby." Their debut CD, Coisa de Louco II, arrived in 1995 and featured fresh versions of "Amigo Punk" and "Nunca Diga," the latter later covered by Pato Fu on Televisão de Cachorro; the follow-up, Chapinhas de Ouro, appeared in 1998 and included "Eu Gostaria de Matar os Dois," "Iluminados Monstros do Amor," and "Beethoven."
