Biography
Hailing from Los Angeles, Harrison Whitford writes alt-folk songs distinguished by tender emotional honesty and melodic clarity. His work merges pop craftsmanship with earthy, unpolished textures that recall acknowledged influences Paul Westerberg and Elliott Smith. After establishing himself as Phoebe Bridgers’ guitarist and longtime creative partner, he issued his first solo album, Afraid of Everything, in 2018.
Whitford was born in Boston and later settled in Los Angeles, where he pursued songwriting while taking on outside collaborations and session projects. As a close friend of fellow songwriter Phoebe Bridgers, he contributed to her recordings and writing sessions for several years and appeared on her 2017 breakthrough release, Stranger in the Alps. At the same time he continued performing and tracking his own songs, leading to the self-released Afraid of Everything LP in 2018. The record juxtaposes bare acoustic arrangements with atmospheric production and received widespread praise, prompting its 2019 reissue on the British label Screwdriver Records.
