Elena Paparizou, the Greek pop sensation, achieved worldwide recognition in 2005 after triumphing at the Eurovision Song Contest with her track "My Number One." She entered the world on January 31, 1982, in Västergötland, Sweden, as the child of Greek immigrants, and spent her formative years in Gothenburg, where her education encompassed vocal training alongside instruction in dance and theater. Often referred to as Helena in global releases, she joined forces at age 17 with fellow Greek-Swede Nikos Panagiotidis to establish the dance-pop outfit Antique. Their initial release, a rendition of Notis Sfakianakis' "Opa-Opa," surged to prominence by securing Top Ten positions throughout Scandinavia and marking the pioneering Greek-language entry to reach Sweden's Top Five. Subsequent success arrived with "Dinata Dinata," complemented by the releases "Follow Me" and "Moro Mou." Antique further advanced Greece's standing at the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest via "(I Would) Die for You," securing third position after Estonia and Denmark, the host country.

Though Antique maintained momentum, Paparizou parted ways with Panagiotidis in 2003 to pursue individual endeavors, inking a deal with Sony/BMG and unveiling "Anapantites Klisis" as her debut solo offering toward the close of that year. Early 2004 saw the arrival of Protereotita, which spawned successes such as "Antithesis," "Anamnisis," "Katse Kala," and "Stin Kardia Mou Mono Thlipsi," attaining double platinum status within Greece. Her rising stature in her ancestral land positioned her ideally to embody Greece at the 2005 Eurovision, where "My Number One" delivered the nation's inaugural victory. An updated Protereotita incorporating the hit promptly reached stores, preceding her extensive touring schedule across Australia and North America in the latter part of the year. "Mambo!" then dominated the Greek charts for ten straight weeks, paving the way for her second album Yparhi Logos in spring 2006, which ascended to the summit. Closing out the year, she presented her debut worldwide effort The Game of Love, featuring six English adaptations from Yparhi Logos alongside six new compositions.
