Henry

Henry Lau, performing under the mononym Henry, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, actor, and producer who rose to K-pop prominence in 2008 as a member of Super Junior M, the Chinese sub-unit of the widely celebrated South Korean boy band Super Junior. He launched an independent career in 2013 and has since become a sought-after songwriter and composer while pursuing acting, issuing singles such as the 2017 track “Girlfriend” and making his Hollywood debut in the 2019 film A Dog’s Journey.

Born in Toronto, Lau devoted his early years to training in music, acting, and dance. An accomplished violinist, guitarist, and pianist fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Korean, he originally planned a career as a professional violinist until SM Entertainment selected him at a 2006 audition. After moving to Korea the following year and appearing in a video for Super Junior, he joined the Super Junior sub-group Super Junior M alongside Han Geng, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook, Kyuhyun, and Zhou Mi. As the first international act in the Chinese music industry to combine members of Chinese and Korean descent, he continued recording and performing with the ensemble until officially departing in 2018.

Throughout his Super Junior M tenure, Lau contributed to numerous singles, appeared in films and television programs, and competed on a celebrity edition of MasterChef Korea.

His debut solo EP, Trap, arrived in 2013 and reached number two on the Gaon Weekly album chart. The 2014 follow-up EP Fantastic strengthened his standing as a pop artist, while high-profile television roles and soundtrack work further elevated his visibility. The soulful, R&B-tinged single “Girlfriend” from 2017 topped numerous South Korean daily digital charts and reached number three on the Gaon Download Chart.

Upon completing his contract with SM Entertainment in 2018, Lau established his own studio, entered the restaurant business, and signed with Monster Entertainment Group. The next year brought the release of “Untitled Love Song,” his first solo single for Monster, as well as “Don’t Forget (feat. Rocoberry)” and the American comedy-drama A Dog’s Journey.
