Biography
Formed in Sydney, Australia yet now based in New York City, the duo High Highs crafts delicate dream pop that sometimes relies on acoustic means, pairing it with ethereal male vocals in the style of fellow Australians Gypsy & the Cat. Oli Chang and Jack Milas launched the project in 2010 and released a self-titled EP on Rocket Records the next year. Licensing deals for commercials and cinema followed rapidly, among them the 2012 musical comedy Pitch Perfect, which used their track “Open Season.” That same song surfaced on the band’s first full-length, Open Season, issued by Fine Time/Sony in early 2013. Support dates soon arrived with Vampire Weekend, How to Dress Well, and Empire of the Sun. Their second album, Cascades, appeared in early 2016 via Never Dream Never Sleep and PIAS, expanding into a grander, more electronic yet still dreamy sound.
