Home Free, an a cappella country ensemble, achieved worldwide recognition in 2013 by claiming victory as Season Four champions on the vocal competition series The Sing-Off. Their major-label debut Crazy Life arrived the following year and registered on the Billboard charts. Further releases such as Dive Bar Saints (2019), Land of the Free (2021), and So Long Dixie (2022) continued to register on both country and mainstream tallies, with the last of these marking the first occasion the ensemble incorporated minimal instrumental support.

The quintet originated in Mankato, Minnesota, during 2000 when brothers Chris and Adam Rupp joined Matt Atwood, Darren Scruggs, and Dan Lemke, most still teenagers at the time. What began as a pastime became a professional endeavor in 2007 upon issuance of the debut album From the Top. Leadership rested with the Rupp brothers and Atwood while additional personnel rotated through the lineup. Four further projects followed—Kickin' It Old School in 2009, Christmas, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 in 2010, and Live from the Road in 2012—before the group entered Season Four of The Sing-Off in 2013. Their winning arrangement of Hunter Hayes' "I Want Crazy" led to a Sony contract. Momentum from the television victory propelled Crazy Life to number eight on the Top Country Albums chart in 2014, prompting release of the holiday set Full of Cheer before year's end.

Columbia's third Home Free album, Country Evolution, surfaced in September 2015 and showcased contributions from Charlie Daniels, the Oak Ridge Boys, and Taylor Davis. Timeless followed in September 2017 and opened at number three on the country chart. Two years afterward, Dive Bar Saints emphasized newly written material. The 2020 holiday collection Warmest Winter blended seasonal standards with several original compositions. Land of the Free appeared in 2021 as a patriotic program containing "America (My Country 'Tis of Thee)," "Travelin' Soldier," and "God Bless the U.S.A.," the latter featuring Lee Greenwood alongside the United States Air Force Band. Sounds of Lockdown, comprising tracks captured during the initial COVID-19 restrictions, reached listeners in July 2022. So Long Dixie, issued that November, adopted an entirely original-song approach while allowing several selections to include instrumental accompaniment.
