Biography
Hailing from Orlando, Florida, Voctave operates as an a cappella collective celebrated for its intricate vocal settings of Broadway material, current pop interpretations, and seasonal holiday selections. Tenor performer Jamey Ray, who holds the position of Professor of Music at Rollins College, supplies the ensemble’s arrangements, while Voctave also draws on the abilities of numerous present and past participants in Voices of Liberty, the a cappella unit based at Disney World and Epcot Center. Ray assembled the group in 2015 and launched its online activity with Disney-song renditions; one such effort, the 2016 “Disney Love Medley” that enlisted Kristin Maldonado and Jeremy Michael Lewis, spread rapidly and aided the growth of its following. The medley was featured on Voctave’s self-titled debut album, also released in 2016. That same year the ensemble issued the holiday collection The Spirit of the Season. In June 2017 Voctave delivered The Corner of Broadway and Main Street, which incorporated guest appearances by Rachel Potter, David Phelps, and Sandi Patty. A further seasonal release, Snow, appeared the following November.
