Biography
Formed in 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the cinematic pop vocal trio Gentri draws on musical theater traditions and consists of LDS singers Brad Robins, Casey Elliott, and Bradley Quinn Lever. Taking cues from Josh Groban, Alfie Boe, Michael Bublé, Andrea Bocelli, and Michael Bolton, the group derived its name by merging “gentleman” and “trio.” Their guiding purpose, to “bring gentlemen back,” grew out of a discussion Elliott had with a female friend who noted the scarcity of chivalry in contemporary dating. The three versatile vocalists and actors, who first connected while appearing together in a production of Les Misérables, have appeared on major regional stages while dressed in their trademark sport coats and pocket squares.
Gentri’s self-titled classical crossover debut EP, released by Shadow Mountain Records and produced by arranger and producer Stephen Nelson, topped the charts and featured five original tracks alongside two spirituals. Later in 2015 they scored another success with the Merry Christmas EP. Their first full-length album, Rise, appeared in February 2016 and contained the service-themed single “Soldier” plus a rendition of Billy Joel’s “And So It Goes.” Finding Christmas, issued that autumn, climbed to the Top Five on the classical, Heatseekers, and holiday album charts. After issuing a 2017 cover of the Beatles’ “Let It Be,” the trio brought its cinematic style to sacred repertoire on Hymns, which surfaced in January 2018. The following year they returned to seasonal material with the Christmas-themed Noel.
