Biography
A Juno Award-winning classical pop vocal quartet, the Tenors showcase the voices of Victor Micallef, Clifton Murray, Alberto Urso, and Mark Masri. Established in Canada during 2004, the ensemble blends opera arias, classical standards, reinterpreted pop numbers, and newly composed pieces. They have toured extensively throughout North America and Europe, sharing stages with prominent figures ranging from Sheryl Crow to Andrea Bocelli, and have issued the multi-platinum albums The Canadian Tenors in 2008, The Perfect Gift in 2009, and Lead with Your Heart in 2012. The veteran quartet delivered its third holiday collection, Christmas with the Tenors, during 2023.
Following the early-1990s breakthrough of the Three Tenors, vocal groups built around three tenors became a familiar format, yet this ensemble chose to expand the model into a quartet that originally included Victor Micallef, Clifton Murray, Remigio Pereira, and Fraser Walters. Its 2008 debut quickly achieved strong sales and was succeeded in 2009 by the gold-certified holiday set The Perfect Gift. The 2012 release Lead with Your Heart contained the single “I Believe,” earned a Juno Award, and joined the previous two projects in reaching multi-platinum status.
The group has appeared across North America and Europe alongside leading artists from both popular and classical spheres, as well as before numerous heads of state. Quartet members composed the eight tracks on Under One Sky, which anchored their most extensive tour to date and took them to dozens of North American cities throughout the 2015-2016 season. In 2016 the ensemble parted company with Pereira after he performed alternate lyrics to the Canadian national anthem at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The following year they issued the holiday album Christmas Together. Christmas with the Tenors, released in 2023, introduced Alberto Urso and Mark Masri in the studio and featured renditions of Chris Rea’s “Driving Home for Christmas” and Sia’s “Snowman” together with perennial favorites such as “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Jingle Bell Rock.”
