Biography
Ingenting emerged as a Norwegian rock ensemble whose commercial zenith arrived in the mid-1990s, driven by the Top Ten singles “HIV Positiv” and “Motorsag” plus multiple albums that landed inside the national Top 20. Though the group formally disbanded in 1998, its members later engineered a strong resurgence.
Founded in Sandnes, Norway, during the 1980s, the band’s mid-1990s configuration featured Kjartan Osmundsen on vocals and guitar, Ove Morten Grødeland and Bård Schanche on guitar, Knut Kønigsberg on drums, and Tor-Jan Møller on bass; frequent personnel shifts marked the group’s entire history. Its first album, the self-titled Ingenting, appeared in 1991 on Steens Records. After signing with Sonet, the 1993 release Pass’ Ikkje Inn reached number 14 on the Norwegian charts and yielded the Top Ten single “HIV Positiv,” launching the band into mainstream prominence.
The follow-up Piknik (1994) climbed to number 12 and contained the Top Ten hit “Motorsag,” while Dill og Dall (1996) also entered the Top 20. Shortly afterward, Kjartan Osmundsen exited and was briefly succeeded by Michael Ravndal, an event that effectively ended the band’s first era; a closing Sonet compilation, Samleting, surfaced in 1998.
Osmundsen’s return produced the Top 20 album Nytt on Oslove Records in 2003, warmly received by longtime listeners. The subsequent Fine Meg (2004) fared far more modestly, prompting another extended break. Under new vocalist Kjell Undheim, Ingenting staged a further comeback in 2008 with the Top Ten album Kjempegreier—their highest-charting full-length to date—while Universal Music simultaneously reissued the earlier catalog.
