Iyanya, the Nigerian singer-songwriter, attained widespread attention in 2008 by claiming victory in Project Fame West Africa’s opening season as a contestant. His sound fuses polished R&B with vivid Afro-pop textures; after launching Made Men Music Group with a collaborator, he issued multiple albums and achieved a breakthrough via the 2013 single “Kukere.” Once Applaudise appeared in 2015, he exited the label and devoted the balance of the decade to individual tracks, among them the successes “Biko” and “Up 2 Sumting.”

Raised in Calabar after his birth there, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk first sang as a youngster inside the church pastored by his grandfather. Following university, a job at a karaoke bar let him sharpen his voice, which soon led to sets at neighborhood venues. Although R&B figures such as R. Kelly and Craig David shaped his approach and prompted an early rap attempt, he ultimately embraced a blend of Afro-pop, Western R&B, and electronic pop. Success arrived when he won the first televised edition of Project Fame West Africa.

His debut album, the R&B-centered My Story, surfaced the next year, yet the 2013 follow-up Desire truly secured his standing. Loaded with features from D'banj, Flavour N'abania, and Wizkid, the set generated well-liked singles including “Kukere” and “Ur Waist,” and it appeared on Made Men Music Group, the imprint he established in 2011 with Ubi Franklin. Applaudise followed in 2015 as his third LP, after which a disagreement ended his partnership with Franklin and the label in 2016. That year Don Jazzy of Mavin Records proposed handling Iyanya’s upcoming material. A simultaneous arrangement with Temple Management steered him toward singles over the next three years, yielding “Biko,” “No Drama,” and the Peruzzi-assisted “Ijeoma.” The decade opened with “Fever.”
