Nigerian vocalist, composer, and studio craftsman 2baba, known professionally as 2face Idibia until the mid-2010s, secured his place among Africa’s foremost Afro-pop figures. His path opened in Lagos during the late 1990s inside the hip-hop and R&B trio Plantashun Boiz, shared with Faze and Blackface Naija. Once the group disbanded he moved forward alone, reaching audiences across Africa and portions of Europe via the 2004 album Face 2 Face, whose standout track “African Queen” traveled widely, and the 2006 release Grass 2 Grace, which earned awards by fusing West African folk textures with R&B and rap. He sustained strong live draw into the following decade, launched Hypertek Entertainment, and recorded with artists ranging from R. Kelly to Machel Montano while acting as ambassador for both the Red Cross and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control. After adopting the name 2baba in 2014 he extended his humanitarian work through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and returned to the studio six years later with Warriors, his first project under the revised identity.

Innocent Ujah Idibia grew up in Jos, Nigeria, where he majored in business administration and management yet earned extra income by writing and singing jingles and appearing at neighborhood events. He ultimately dropped out to concentrate on music, moved to Lagos, and began using the stage name 2face Idibia in 1996. There he teamed with Blackface Naija and Faze to form Plantashun Boiz, whose hip-hop and R&B sound gained traction and produced two Dove Records albums, Body and Soul in 2000 and Sold Out in 2003. Seeking a solo route, 2face exited in 2004, dissolving the band and sparking the long-running “Faze vs. Tuface” dispute with his former colleagues. Fronted by “African Queen,” the debut solo album Face 2 Face spread through western and southern Africa as well as Europe, markedly widening his reach. The 2006 successor Grass 2 Grace met similar approval, generating “True Love” and “For Instance” while collecting a MOBO Award. That year “African Queen” also featured in the American film Phat Girlz and received wider international release. In 2007 the three members briefly reconciled to record the final Plantashun Boiz album, Plan B, before separating again.

After leaving the Kennis imprint, 2face established Hypertek Entertainment and issued the 2009 guest-laden The Unstoppable, which included Sound Sultan, R. Kelly, and additional contributors. An expanded edition titled The Unstoppable International Edition followed in 2010 and brought the singer a SoundCity Music Video Award plus two MTV Africa Music Awards. Continental visibility translated into brand deals with Guinness and Nigerian Breweries; he simultaneously served as ambassador for the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, released the single “Man Unkind” to condemn counterfeit goods in Nigeria, and received honors from the National Youth Council.

Two further albums appeared in short order: 2012’s Away and Beyond and 2014’s The Ascension, the latter again crowded with guests including Vector, Dammy Krane, and Machel Montano. Later that year he began performing as 2baba and marked his 40th birthday in 2015 with the FORTYfied concert in Lagos, joined onstage by Wizkid, Burna Boy, Timaya, and D’banj. Philanthropic activity continued with a 2017 partnership alongside the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, leading in 2020 to the release of Warriors, his first album issued under the 2baba name.
