Born on May 17, 1982, in Washington, D.C., Jamie Kilstein crafts comedy rooted in progressive politics and the disorder of modern life. Raised with his two siblings mainly in Pennington, New Jersey, he later admitted that his teenage focus shifted toward smoking weed and cranking loud music rather than following parental guidance. Bad Religion’s Stranger Than Fiction and Pearl Jam’s Ten ignited his musical curiosity, prompting early attempts on drums that gave way to guitar after repeated setbacks. Merging punk’s raw drive with electric blues and classic rock textures, he quit high school to devote himself entirely to a jam band in which he played guitar and sang lead. Once that group disbanded, he redirected his stage presence toward stand-up comedy.

Early sets stayed conventional until he folded in sharp political tirades, drawing fresh crowds at poetry slams and unconventional spaces. A 2007 slot at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival broadened his visibility, leading to bookings at music festivals, comedy clubs, and theaters worldwide. His debut comedy album, Please Buy My Jokes, arrived in 2008, followed by three additional spoken-word releases issued between 2009 and 2012. With his spouse Allison Kilkenny he co-hosts Citizen Radio, an online broadcast mixing news, commentary, and entertainment segments.

After years operating beyond the commercial comedy mainstream, he revisited music, resuming guitar and assembling a band to underpin his biting yet comedic lyrics. Billing the project Jamie Kilstein & the Agenda, he partnered with Don Giovanni Records and delivered their first album in July 2016. Kevin Salem produced A Bit Much, which interwove full songs with ranting passages over music in a style that blended punk, blues, roots rock, and folk.
