Jan Blomqvist, a Berlin-based singer, songwriter, and bandleader, fuses intricate tech-house designed for clubs with tuneful yet melancholic pop. Minimal but propulsive beats, meticulous production, and yearning vocals that recall Thom Yorke define his tracks. He regularly performs and records alongside pianist Felix Lehmann and drummer Christian Dammann while writing with lyricist Ryan Mathiesen. Blomqvist took up singing and guitar in his youth; at age 21 he discovered techno and chose to make music his profession. Evenings spent bartending at a club left nights free for track-making, during which he refined his mix of minimal techno and pop songwriting. In 2011 he issued two singles on Philip Bader’s Dantze label—one an interpretation of Angus & Julia Stone’s “Big Jet Plane”—and played his first festival gig. Early in 2012 he supplied vocals for Oliver Koletzki’s “The Devil in Me.” Koletzki’s Stil Vor Talent label soon followed with the Ink EP. Over the next three years Blomqvist performed more than 300 shows worldwide and released several further singles, leading to his debut full-length Remote Control, issued by Armada in 2016. After a remix collection, Days Like Nights released the single “Winter Roads” in 2017.
