Biography
Jarvis Cocker launched JARV IS in 2017, signaling the Pulp veteran’s return to art-dance foundations right after finishing the Room 29 collaboration with Chilly Gonzales. The group’s roster comprised Cocker on vocals, keyboardist Serafina Steer, bassist Andrew McKinney, violinist Emma Smith, drummer Adam Betts, and Jason Buckle. Across the following three years the musicians refined their songs at U.K. festivals and steadily expanded their audience. “Must I Evolve?” surfaced as the first single in May 2019, followed by “House Music All Night Long” in March 2020. Those releases were intended to precede a May rollout of the album Beyond the Pale, but the COVID-19 pandemic postponed its appearance until September 2020. Beyond the Pale entered the U.K. charts at number 11.
