Biography
New Orleans vocalist JayQ the Legend blended pop production, R&B sensibilities, and dancehall undercurrents across an opening run of vivid, sun-soaked singles. While preparing a debut EP, he introduced this hybrid approach to listeners in 2019 through cuts such as the spare, buoyant “Body Talk.”
Born in New Orleans, JayQ the Legend began singing in his church choir during childhood. As an adult he served many years in the Marines, absorbing Afro-Caribbean music during worldwide travels in uniform. He issued his first official single, “Body Talk,” in June 2019, accompanied by a video that evoked the enigmatic poise of Michael Jackson’s early style. The clip swiftly drew millions of views, prompting JayQ to keep issuing fresh material through the remaining summer months. “Spend the Night” and “It Could Be You” appeared next, followed in August 2019 by a remix of “Body Talk” that included a guest spot from trap dancehall artist Hoodcelebrityy. Throughout this period he continued preparing his initial full project, the EP JayQ 4 U, then scheduled for release later that year.
