Biography
Jazmin Bean constructs a distinctive sound by weaving together electronicore, hyperpop, orchestral synth rock, theatrical elements, and anime-derived imagery in ever-shifting combinations. The 2020 expanded edition of the debut EP Worldwide Torture collected the early metallic and bass-driven tracks “Hello Kitty” and “Monster Truck,” yet the 2024 official debut album Traumatic Livelihood moved the emphasis toward strings and a symphonic synth-rock framework.
Born Jasmine Adams to two working musicians—father Ginger, guitarist, singer, and songwriter with the Wildhearts and Quireboys, and mother Angie Adams, who played drums in the ’90s punk band Fluffy—the artist began appearing on stages in England at age fifteen. The first recording under the name Jazmin Bean arrived in 2019 with the single “Worldwide Torture,” which also titled the initial EP. Issued independently on Aswang Birthday Cake that October, the project drew enough attention through “Saccharine” and “Hello Kitty” to secure a release via Island/Interscope; the label version, expanded with extra songs, appeared in November 2020. By that point the October release “Yandere” had already surpassed several million streams, while the extended EP incorporated the collaborations “Princess Castle” with Cottontail and “Monster Truck” with Zheani.
Further singles followed, including 2021’s “R U Looking 4 Me Now,” and the five-song Acoustic Church Session offered a contrasting, unadorned presentation that highlighted vocal and songwriting substance beneath the layered production, heavy beats, costumes, and makeup. Bean had also gained notice for Monster High-inspired makeup tutorials posted online. The same orchestral synth-rock direction surfaced on the 2023 track “Favourite Toy” and the subsequent “You Know What You’ve Done,” both featured on the February 2024 album Traumatic Livelihood.
