Biography
From an early age, Jesse Powell developed his vocal abilities through family performances and appearances in community talent competitions. During 1993, he encountered up-and-coming producer Carl Roland while in Kansas City. The pair then moved to Los Angeles and began collaborating on musical projects. Powell’s breakthrough arrived after Louis Silas, Jr. attended an artist showcase and heard him perform, prompting Silas to offer a recording contract soon afterward. His releases span the 1996 self-titled album Jesse Powell, the 1998 project ’Bout It, 2001’s JP, and the 2003 effort Jesse. Jesse Powell passed away in Los Angeles, California, on September 13, 2022, after suffering cardiac arrest one day beyond his 51st birthday.
