Biography
Having once lent her voice in support of Alicia Keys, Jessy Wilson shapes elegant R&B rooted in the soul sounds of the 1960s and 1970s. Her first full-length effort, Phase, appeared in 2019.
A native of Brooklyn, Wilson trained at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School, the performing arts institution in Manhattan. After finishing her studies there, she was chosen to supply backup vocals for Alicia Keys and went on to feature on multiple Keys albums and tours. Her vocals surfaced on the Skyzoo track "The Knowing" in 2012. The following year she moved to Nashville, where she wrote alongside leading figures in music, among them her mentor John Legend. With fellow singer and songwriter Kallie North she launched the soulful roots rock duo Muddy Magnolias; the pair delivered Broken People on Third Man Records in 2016. That same year Wilson contributed backing vocals to Legend’s DARKNESS AND LIGHT. Although Muddy Magnolias dissolved in 2017, a David Lynch remix of their song "American Woman" surfaced on the Twin Peaks: Limited Event Series Soundtrack released that year.
Wilson resurfaced with the solo single "Love & Sophistication" in early 2019. Produced and co-written by Patrick Carney of the Black Keys, her debut LP Phase arrived that May under distribution from Thirty Tigers Records.
