Biography
Born on 4 April 1950 in Zürich, Switzerland, as Hans Heinrich Brack, the European singer-songwriter earned the nickname Mr. Swiss Country at home. Classical vocal training led him to pass an audition for the Zürich Opera, yet a trip to America shifted his focus toward country music. A 1975 duo partnership gave way to solo success by 1979, when he began releasing material on EMI Records across Europe. Throughout the 1980s he cut albums in Nashville, Tennessee—several helmed by Randy Scruggs—while raising his profile at major events such as London’s Wembley Festival, Zürich’s International Country Music Festival, and Nashville’s annual Fan Fair. The 1985 release Strong Feelings is regarded as Switzerland’s first CD. In 1988 he teamed with Australian country singer Jeff Turner for a joint album; the two later toured together and produced additional recordings, among them a gospel project. Brack’s 1991 effort Face to Face gathered duets with American artists including Bobby Bare, Paul Overstreet, Moe Bandy, Linda Davis, and Stella Parton. Entering the new millennium he has remained a steady draw, delivering more than one hundred concerts annually both in Switzerland and overseas.
