Junction 18 formed in Boston during 1996. The group initially honed their craft and played gigs across the Northeast and New England regions, cultivating a dedicated but modest fanbase through dynamic performances and skilled playing. Drawing from acts including the Smashing Pumpkins, Faith No More, and Bad Religion, the band took part in the Vans Warped Tour, where they performed alongside New Found Glory. While scouting fresh acts, Fearless Records personnel received a recommendation for Junction 18 from Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory. After submitting a demo, the band secured a contract in just seven days. During autumn 2000, the lineup consisting of vocalist Andy Bristol, bassist Ryan Spencer, drummer Chris Kelley, along with guitarists Ryan McHugh and Scott Morganella, put out This Vicious Cycle via Fearless, followed by tours supporting groups such as Dynamite Boy and the Stryder. Two years afterward, they issued the EP Heroes from the Future. In 2003, the musicians featured on The Acoustic Split with Over It, which came out on Top Notch Records.
