Junior M.A.F.I.A., whose full name stands for Junior Masters at Finding Intelligent Attitudes, drew immediate attention through a pair of successful tracks, “Get Money” and “Player’s Anthem,” produced by their longtime friend the Notorious B.I.G. The crew’s first album, Conspiracy, appeared in 1995 on Biggie’s Undeas imprint via Undeas/Big Beat and earned gold certification. Formed in Bedford-Stuyvesant, NY, the act assembled four distinct units: the 6s featuring Little Caesar, Chico, and Nino Brown; the Snakes consisting of cousins Larceny and Trife; MC Klepto; and 47 MC Little Kim. Their lyrics centered on themes of firearms, wealth, and sexual encounters. The popularity of “Get Money” opened a path for Lil’ Kim, identified as the group’s lieutenant, to launch an independent career marked by a bold personal stance and overtly sexual image that drew criticism from certain commentators while listeners praised her technical ability. She issued the album Hard Core in 1996, which included the singles “Crush on You,” “Queen B@#$H,” and “No Time,” the last reaching the top of the rap chart. Biggie, Sean “Puffy” Combs, and Little Caesar all appeared on the project. Shortly afterward, her rising profile led to featured verses alongside Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott, Mary J. Blige, and Sean “Puffy” Combs, plus contributions to the soundtracks for Money Talks and High School High.
