Panama-born producer and rapper Kenny Man fuses his hip-hop foundations with reggaetón’s pop sensibilities, a blend showcased on his 2020 album New Beginning.
Raised in Panama under the name Asdrúbal Hurtado Alfaro, he navigated a challenging neighborhood by immersing himself in music, particularly hip-hop. His debut arrived in 2013 with the mixtape Libertad Bajo Palabra. Sticking to a classic hip-hop approach, he issued his follow-up tape Kinto Elemento in 2015 and, two years afterward, unveiled 8 Songs Suficientes. Drawing guidance from reggaetón artist Mr. Saik, Kenny Man altered his approach, adopting reggaetón’s pop production while retaining his distinctive flow. In 2018 he inked a contract with Universal Music Latino and dropped the reggaetón single “Ni Gucci Ni Prada.” Subsequent singles and partnerships with Sebastián Yatra, Luciano Vozz, and Nacho paved the way for his fourth album, fittingly titled New Beginning, which appeared in October 2020.
