Hailing from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Jon Z creates rap that draws equal inspiration from reggaeton and the trap wing of American hip-hop. His Eminem-esque high-pitched voice and quirky style give the tracks the feel of a Puerto Rican counterpart to artists like Young Thug and Future. Born Jonathan Resto Quiñone in 1991, he launched his career by posting freestyles on YouTube starting in 2014. Concerts throughout Puerto Rico soon attracted Boy Wonder’s interest, resulting in a signing to Chosen Few Emeralds Entertainment. The Game Is About to Change, his debut mixtape, surfaced in 2015. Singles such as “0 Sentimientos,” “Mentirte,” and “Violeta” appeared afterward. In the two years that followed, Z contributed guest verses to recordings by Frankie Roura, Josh D’Ace, and Mackie while releasing his own tracks including “Nunca Me Amo” and “Pali2.” JonTrapVolta, his first album, arrived in 2017. The next year he joined his cousin Ele A El Dominio for the LP Super Saiyan Flow, and in 2019 he paired with Baby Rasta on Voodoo.
