Swedish synth pop outfit KieTheVez captured material as far back as 1986, although their debut full-length did not surface until 1994. Keyboardists Jörgen Falmer, Tomas Amneskog, and Per-Henrik Petersson launched the project while still in their teens, initially performing under the names West End—taken from the Pet Shop Boys song—and Yellowstone alongside several fluctuating members. Personnel shifts and the musicians’ military obligations postponed a stable configuration until 1991, when vocalist Jesper Palmqvist came aboard and the band settled on the KieTheVez title. October Records signed the group in 1993, leading to the release of their first proper album, Three Empty Words, the next year. Opium arrived in October 1997 and contained the dance-club favorite “One Roman Choir.” KieTheVez later arranged U.S. distribution through A Different Drum.
