Biography
Klô Pelgag, a French-Canadian art pop singer and songwriter, pairs her dark yet whimsical poetic lyrics with elaborate orchestral arrangements. Since issuing her 2013 debut album L'Alchimie des monstres she has enjoyed widespread success, collecting multiple awards across Francophone countries while touring internationally. Her most ambitious and personal album to date, Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs, appeared in 2020.
Chloé Pelletier-Gagnon entered the world in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Quebec, in 1990. Visual art, literature, and theater, together with the music of Gilles Vigneault and Jacques Brel, sparked her early interest in composition during her teenage years. She adopted the stage name Klô Pelgag in 2009, prevailed in several competitions, and issued a four-song EP in 2012. Her first full-length, L'Alchimie des monstres, followed in 2013 and quickly drew attention throughout the French-Canadian music community. In 2014 Pelgag received the Félix Award for New Artist of the Year and later claimed the Breakout Award at the Francophone SOCAN Awards; her debut also earned a nomination for Francophone Album of the Year at the 2015 Juno Awards. The second album, L'Étoile thoracique, arrived in 2016 and prompted an exhaustive international tour that left her needing time away to manage anxiety.
Four Félix Awards came her way in 2017 along with the Prix Félix-Leclerc and the Prix de la chanson SOCAN, and she was named Female Singer of the Year at the Félix Awards in 2018. Pelgag issued the Christmas single “Toute seule pour Noël” in 2019. Following the birth of her daughter and the death of her father, she released Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs in 2020, titling it after an island village her family often passed. Longtime collaborator Sylvain Deschamps co-produced the record, which Pelgag arranged with Owen Pallett; it earned international acclaim and broadened her reach beyond Francophone markets.
