Klaypex crafts aggressive electro-house laced with pronounced dubstep wobbles, pulling influence from Infected Mushroom, Deadmau5, and Skrillex. The project officially launched in the early 2010s, issuing its first album, Loose Dirt, in 2011 and quickly broadening its reach through the viral track “Dubstep Guns.”

Founding members Johnny Atar and Mark Emmanuel first crossed paths in Toronto during 2006 at an after-school program. At that stage they performed alternative rock and heavy metal, shaped by the styles of Metallica and Muse, before pivoting to electronic production in 2010 and moving to Miami. Loose Dirt arrived the following year, showcasing a lighter take on Skrillex’s wobble and featuring the breakout single “Dubstep Guns” that helped spread their name. Their next release, Ready to Go, climbed into the Top 20 of both the U.S. Dance/Electronic and Heatseekers charts.

Issued in 2014, the third album Anything Goes dialed back the dubstep intensity while maintaining high energy and included guest appearances by Anne Nguyen on “Follow Me” and “Dangerous,” Dolly K on “Last Night,” and additional collaborators. The concise EP The Future built upon that direction, celebrating Daft Punk on the tracks “Robot Love” and “New Kids.” By incorporating future bass and trap elements, the duo kept issuing singles through 2016, among them “Be Free” and “Journey.”
