Biography
Kyoto Jazz Massive emerged as pioneers of Japanese nu-jazz in the early '90s, when siblings Shuya Okino and Yoshihiro Okino first teamed up to handle DJ duties. Once several singles appeared, the ensemble inked a deal with Germany's Compost imprint, which issued the outfit's first full-length effort, Spirit of the Sun, in 2002. One year later the brothers handled reworkings drawn from the Compost, Jazzanova, and Sonar Kollectiv rosters for the compilation Fueled for the Future, while the same label marked its tenth year with the 2006 collection 10th Anniversary. Between Kyoto Jazz Massive projects the collective additionally supplied remixes to Soul Bossa Trio, Nicola Conte, Mondo Grosso, and Jazzanova, among further artists, just as Shuya launched Quality! Records and Yoshihiro founded Especial Records.
