Biography
Lake of Tears originated in 1992 after Daniel Brennare, Jonas Eriksson, and Michael Larsson departed their previous death metal group to join forces with Johan Oudhuis. Early the following year the quartet laid down a demo that drew the interest of Black Mark Productions, leading to a contract shortly thereafter. Greater Art appeared as their first release in 1994, with Headstones arriving the next year. European touring commenced, though the lineup lost guitarist Eriksson during summer 1996. A Crimson Cosmos, their third album, was tracked in 1997 and attracted significant notice within the metal underground. Ulrik Lindblom was brought in as the new guitarist, and the group maintained a rigorous tour schedule through 1999, when Forever Autumn was recorded. That effort shifted toward a progressive rock direction compared with earlier work, prompting the addition of full-time keyboardist Christian Saarinen to complete the sonic palette. By 2001, however, insufficient support from the label combined with internal difficulties had dissolved the band. In winter of that year Brennare posted on Lake of Tears’s official website that he intended to deliver the final album owed under their contract and expressed hope the others might participate in one last recording.
