Biography
Finnish musician Laura Naukkarinen records and performs under the alias Lau Nau. Frequently partnering with other musicians, she crafts, plays, and captures introspective, boundary-pushing material that fuses folk traditions, chamber arrangements, and atmospheric post-rock textures. Locust Music introduced her first full-length effort, the 2004 album Kuutarha, to American listeners and later handled the 2008 follow-up Nukkuu. Finland’s Fonal Records issued her third album, Valohiukkanen, in 2012; the release earned a nomination for the Teosto Prize, an award given for inventive Finnish music. She next composed the original score for the 2013 feature Silmäterä (The Princess of Egypt), after which Fonal released her instrumental soundtrack for the 2015 documentary HEM. Någonstans (Home Somewhere). Poseidon, her next album under her own name, appeared in 2017 through Fonal and Beacon Sound/Forced Exposure. Kronos Quartet and Samuli Kosminen—longtime Múm associate and member of the experimental rock ensemble KTU—served as co-producers.
