Laub came together in mid-1990s Berlin as an experimental indie/electronic project initiated by programmers Antye Greie-Fuchs and Von Jotka. Their first album, the 1997 LP Kopflastig, appeared on Kitty-Yo, the same imprint that housed related outfits such as Tarwater and Gonzalez and that also employed Greie-Fuchs during the day. Percussionist Sebastian Vogel was later brought into the fold, enabling Laub to issue Unter Anderen Bedingungen Als Liebe in 1999 together with its remix companion Intuition. Greie-Fuchs and Jotka simultaneously delivered the wonderful Filesharing in 2002, an aptly titled set whose pieces were assembled chiefly by the producers exchanging audio files over the internet.
