California native John Cudlip channels '90s lo-fi textures and weighty shoegaze elements through his introspective songwriting under the Launder moniker. In 2022 the project issued its expansive first full-length, Happening.

Long drawn to layered guitar traditions, Cudlip unveiled his initial Launder offering, the Pink Cloud EP, during 2018. Day Wave’s Jackson Phillips handled production, while DIIV’s Zachary Cole Smith supplied additional guitar parts. Cudlip continued broadening his palette after that release, stockpiling dozens of demos before inking a deal with Ghostly International in 2019. From that cache he distilled 13 tracks spanning a full hour; the resulting debut album was tracked at New Monkey Studio in Van Nuys, California—the facility formerly owned by Elliott Smith—with a live backing band and engineer Sonny DiPerri, whose credits already encompassed melodic-distortion specialists My Bloody Valentine, Trent Reznor, and DIIV. Ghostly released the finished Happening in July 2022.
