Emerging in 2015 with a sound that blended lo-fi guitar numbers and wistful sophisti-pop, the dreamy indie pop project No Vacation first took shape in a more minimal incarnation. A reconfigured roster then delivered their richer official debut, the 2017 EP Intermission, issued on Topshelf Records.

Attention initially arrived via the close-knit textures and everyday, relatable subjects explored on Amo XO that same year. Songwriting from core returning members Sabrina Mai and Basil Saleh propelled the San Francisco outfit toward the brighter indie pop of Summer Break Mixtape, after which the group paused activities. Following several personnel shifts, performances under alternate names, and a geographic split between San Francisco and Brooklyn, the 2017 lineup of Mai on vocals and guitar, Nat Lee on synths and vocals, Harrison Spencer on guitar, and Marisa Saunders on bass revived the original name. Intermission surfaced later that year on Topshelf, carrying a comparably yearning yet more polished approach. Adding Laila Wayans on drums, the band issued an Audiotree Live session in 2018; Topshelf then released the follow-up EP Phasing in 2019, attributed solely to the trio of Mai, Lee, and Spencer.
