Formed in 1987, the French collective Tambours du Bronx set out to probe percussive, brutal, and urban textures and sensations. Beginning with eighteen members who relied solely on tin and metal drums, the ensemble later expanded its arsenal to encompass keyboards, mixing decks, loops, and raps. Emerging at the dawn of the French alt-rock movement, the group shared bills and venues with such scene stalwarts as Les Garçons Bouchers, Mano Negra, Les Négresses Vertes, and Les Wampas. In 2006 Les Tambours du Bronx released the live DVD that captured both their twenty-two-piece lineup and the stage configuration then in use.
