Biography
Emerging from the "Mittlealter" rock scene that took shape in the 1990s and continued afterward, Letzte Instanz from Germany weathered repeated lineup shifts without losing their intensely devoted following. The band formed in Dresden in 1996, with Hörbi, Tin Whistle, Muttis Stolz, Kaspar Wichman, Holly D., and Markus G-Punkt among its founding members. Their debut album, Brachialromantik, appeared in 1998 shortly after Hörbi stepped away; Robin Sohn assumed lead vocals, enabling the group to record and issue Das Spiel the next year. Kaspar Wichman, the original bassist, also exited around that release, with Rasta F. stepping into the role. Apart from the 2001 album Kalter Glanz, the band experienced relative stability through 2002. Further personnel adjustments arrived in 2003 when guitarist Oli joined even as Rasta F. departed in favor of FX on bass and Markus G-Punkt yielded the drum position to Specki T.D. That September the band delivered Götter Auf Abruf, their first project to register on the German charts. A live CD and DVD followed in 2004, the same year Robin Sohn, Tin Whistle, and FX all left; Holly took over vocals and Michael Ende assumed bass duties by year's end. Tin Whistle's slot remained unfilled, though violinist M. Stolz and cellist Benni Cellini were added to the lineup. The reconstituted Letzte Instanz first performed live in 2005 and went on to release Ins Licht in 2006 and Wir Sind Gold in 2007.
