Lorenzo De Monteclaro

Lorenzo de Monteclaro, a smooth norteño singer, took part in nearly fifty films while also releasing an equal number of LPs. Originating from Durango state, he first reached listeners by hosting his own program on a Coahuila radio station, after which his debut single, "El Caminante," quickly became a hit. In the early 1960s he began starring in ranchera films, among them the 1965 success Tierra Sangrienta. His expressive, light tenor ranked among the strongest voices in norteño and conjunto during the 1960s and 1970s, most memorably on the signature song "El Ausente." He kept recording and exploring new approaches well into the 1990s and afterward.
