Since their formation in 1975 by brothers Raul, Jesús, Israel, Alberto, and Polo Urias, the norteño group Los Jilgueros del Arroyo has built a reputation as an award-winning, chart-performing act devoted to romanticos, rancheras, cumbias, and corridos while embracing the genre’s longstanding traditions right from the start. Although Polo departed to become a member of Los Rieleros del Norte before establishing La Máquina Norteña, the remaining lineup has stayed largely intact across more than four decades of steady recording, with occasional contributions from sons and cousins filling temporary roles. Israel Urias has continued to serve as the ensemble’s enduring leader.

More than fifty albums have appeared on various labels throughout the group’s history, among them Chihuahua y Sus Cantares, which reached number 18 on the Mexican Regional Albums chart and number 33 on the Hot Latin Albums chart in 2008, and the 2016 release 20 Exitos Mix, which peaked at number 22 on Hot Latin Albums and number nine on Regional Mexican Albums. Additional tracks have registered on streaming and download rankings. Regional honors have accumulated steadily, accompanying extensive touring throughout Mexico, the United States, and South America. In fall 2017 International Musical Treasures issued the split album Mejor Tercia Norteña alongside Los Relampagos del Norte.
