Los Huracanes Del Norte

For over four decades Los Huracanes del Norte have dominated the regional Mexican music scene, amassing a catalog that exceeds fifty albums and earning recognition as one of música norteña’s most pivotal ensembles. Although the musicians trace their roots to Michoacán, they honed their craft in San Jose, California. The ensemble took shape in 1969 when Heraclio, Jesús, and Francisco García, alongside Asunción Rubalcava, performed under the name Los Cuatro del Norte. Guadalupe García, a fourth sibling, came aboard in 1972 and penned the track that secured the group’s initial studio session. Their debut album appeared in 1973 and spotlighted Guadalupe’s “Corrdio de Daniel Treviño,” which received widespread California airplay. The follow-up, La Gavilla de Burro Prieto, opened doors to regional touring that stretched as far as Illinois dance halls.

A decisive breakthrough arrived in 1978 with La Musiquera, which delivered the band’s first gold record and expanded their itinerary across the entire United States as well as multiple Mexican and Central American venues. Film roles soon introduced their distinctive norteño sound to Spanish-speaking listeners worldwide. By the mid-1990s surging audiences regularly filled venues of ten to thirty thousand. In 2003 the group marked three decades at the forefront of the genre. Nearly every original release from the late 1990s through 2006’s Puro Pa’ Arriba reached the Top Ten of Billboard’s regional Mexican or Latin Albums charts, while singles also registered on airplay, Heatseeker, and streaming rankings.

Further chart success followed: 2010’s En Vivo Desde Monterrey climbed to number eight on the Mexican Regional tally, Soy Mexicana reached eleven the next year, and Corridos Que Dejan Huella landed at twenty. Como Un Huracan peaked at number seven in 2012, and the self-titled 2015 project entered the Latin Albums chart at number sixteen. With 2017’s Alma Bohemia the band observed forty-six years of activity. Still regarded as a household name across Mexico and much of the United States, Los Huracanes del Norte continue to rank among norteño’s foremost standard-bearers.
