Chihuahua, Mexico gave rise to Conjunto Primavera, among the norteño scene’s most romantic and distinctive acts during its explosive 1990s expansion. Saxophonist Juan Domínguez established the ensemble on March 21, 1978—the opening day of spring—in Ojinaga, where its lineup came to feature Tony Meléndez on vocals, Oscar Ochoa on bass, Félix Antonio Contreras handling accordion and electric keyboards, Manuel Rolando Pérez on bajo sexto, Francisco “Frank” Mata on electric bass, and Adrian Anthony Regalado on drums. Early local performances preceded a contract with San Antonio’s independent Joey Records, yielding a consistent flow of releases later reissued on CD during the mid-1990s. The pivotal 1993 album Me Nortie marked their arrival on AFG Sigma Records, the label operated by Los Temerarios, yet the partnership proved brief once financial difficulties prompted Fonovisa’s acquisition of the catalog in the mid-1990s. Conjunto Primavera ranked among the scant few acts that endured the shift; their 1996 Fonovisa debut immediately elevated visibility through sustained marketing support. That alliance propelled the group alongside labelmates Los Tigres del Norte and Grupo Exterminador into the upper tier of norteño popularity. Their harmonies drew equally from vintage doo wop, rhythm and blues, and northern Mexican folk traditions. The 1998 release Necesito Decirte became their first RIAA-certified platinum album, surpassing one million units, while follow-ups such as Morir de Amor (2000), Ansia de Amar (2001), and Perdoname Mi Amor (2002) each achieved at least gold status with more than five hundred thousand copies sold. Beginning with Morir de Amor, a dozen successive albums entered the Billboard Top 200, and multiple titles reached the highest positions on both Top Latin Albums and Mexican Regional Albums charts. At the 2006 Latin Grammy ceremony the group performed and received the award for Best Regional Mexican Song for “Aún Sigues Siendo Mía,” initiating an extended stretch of critical and commercial milestones that included further gold certifications and nearly a dozen Latin Grammy nominations overall. In 2014, at the 15th Annual Latin Grammy Awards, Amor Amor captured the trophy for Best Norteño Album. Subsequent years brought intensive touring and only occasional contributions to multi-artist compilations until the late-2017 studio effort Con Toda la Fuerza appeared on Fonovisa. Two years later the band issued Lo Más Escuchado De, a set of new and re-recorded romantic material whose lead single “Si Te Vuelvo A Ver” charted in early spring 2020.
